Australia’s only Exotic Animal Sanctuary
Where every life is treated with respect and kindness
The ZAMBI Wildlife Foundation strives for excellence in animal welfare by providing our residents with a safe, tranquil, diverse, and enriching environment.
ZAMBI was founded in 2012 as a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation that would become a retreat for exotic animals retired from the circus, film and TV Industry, or private zoo collections.
Today, ZAMBI is home to a diversity of animals who have come through our gates for many reasons.
Whether it was a pride of lions retired from the circus or a family of little monkeys surplus to a zoo’s collection, we were/are happy to do whatever we can to give them all a loving and enriching life.
The ZAMBI Wildlife Foundation is synonymous with Positive Animal Welfare and represents the broader scope of the organisation's activities.
Featured Animals.
Here are examples of some of our residents, their story and why they came to Zambi Wildlife Retreat.
As an endangered species, Phinju is part of a global species management plan to ensure their numbers both in the wild and in captivity do not diminish. This makes Phinju an important animal for future conservation efforts.
ZAMBI feels very privileged to have this incredible species of animal in our care. Phinju is a little timid so is is really enjoying the peace and privacy that Zambi provides
Introducing this adorable Red Panda boy named Phinju.
Meet Pi, our newest striped resident
We would like to thank Dreamworld for choosing ZAMBI as a safe, loving and enriching home for Pi to live out his later years. Pi had been hand-reared as a cub and was a member of the Tiger Island visitors’ experience.
He also had fathered 2 litters of cubs during his years at the Gold Coast park. He really likes his human carers and has a kind nature which made us instantly fall in love with this very handsome tiger.
Rio the Hyacinth Macaw
Rio is a large, vibrant and very intelligent parrot who joined our feathered family when his previous family could no longer keep him.
Rio lives in a large aviary with 7 Blue and Gold macaws, and of course, being the largest of the flock, he is the boss.
He loves to interact with his human carers and get into mischief. Visitors can hand-feed Rio as part of our guided tours.
Meet the Sri Lankan leopard Phoenix.
Phoenix, being an endangered animal, is also part of a global species management plan. He was bred at Darling Downs Zoo and arrived with us at just over a year of age.
It takes time for wild animals to feel safe in a new environment, so we gave him plenty of space and time to settle in and learn to trust us. It did not take him long to become ruler of his domain and have us wrapped around his toes.
Guests can see Phoenix show off how clever leopards are during our guided tours. He sure loves to entertain our visitors.

Make an Impact Today
Zambi receives no government funding. Every contribution directly supports food, veterinary care, enrichment, and habitat maintenance for the animals who call our sanctuary home.
Protecting Wildlife Through Education and Awareness
The Zambi Wildlife Foundation works to raise awareness for endangered species and promote responsible wildlife care through community outreach and educational programs.
The Retreat
ZAMBI Wildlife Retreat is a unique animal sanctuary in Australia. It has been built entirely for the needs of the animals, many of which have not always enjoyed the best of circumstances.
ZAMBI only opens its gates to a very limited number of visitors each year, allowing the animal residents to live in a safe and tranquil environment.
We are in Western Sydney only a hours drive from the CBD.
Conservation
The ZAMBI Wildlife Foundation seeks to raise global awareness for the plight of Endangered and Vulnerable species through a diverse range of mediums.
Through its vast network and collaborative projects, the foundation will directly support on-the-ground conservation efforts domestically and internationally.
