The Hyacinth Macaw
The Hyacinth macaw is the largest flying parrot in the world. They can live up to 60 years of age. Native to South America, their numbers are in decline due to the illegal pet trade (being highly prized pets) and habitat loss.
Diet & Adaptations
Macaw parrots have highly effective beaks that can crack nuts and seeds, and their tongues have bones inside them, making them efficient instruments for tapping into fruits.

Our macaws are part of the guided tour experience, and guests often have the opportunity to hand‑feed these intelligent, colourful birds. During your visit, our keepers will share insights into their personalities, care, and conservation stories.
