GUARDIANS OF THE
WILD HORSE
Logline
Guardians of the Wild Horse is a 40‑minute documentary following the urgent and highly complex relocation of a rare herd of Przewalski’s horses - the last truly wild horse species, once extinct in the wild. A mission of unprecedented difficulty unfolds, all while one question hangs over the herd: are these horses genetically valuable to conservation?
Synopsis
Przewalski’s horses, once extinct in the wild, survive today through a critically narrow gene pool. When a rare Australian herd required relocation, the mission became one of the most challenging and high‑risk horse transports ever attempted.
The documentary follows the planning, preparation, and execution of the relocation - a journey marked by logistical obstacles, environmental pressures, and the emotional weight carried by those responsible for the horses’ safety.
Throughout the film, a single unresolved question shadows the mission: Is this herd genetically pure, or has it mixed with domestic breeds over time? The relocation finally creates the opportunity to explore the truth - but the answer is revealed only once the horses are safe.
Guardians of the Wild Horse is a cinematic, intimate look at the people who risk everything to protect a species with a fragile future.

Producer Statement
This documentary was created to capture a moment of extraordinary significance. The relocation itself was a high‑risk, high‑pressure mission, one that demanded precision, courage, and deep commitment.
But beneath the logistical challenge lay a deeper tension: the uncertainty surrounding the herd’s genetic lineage. For years, this question remained unanswered, shaping how the horses were perceived within the global conservation community.
Our goal was to document both the physical journey and the emotional one - the human dedication, the stakes, and the hope that drives conservation work. We hope this film encourages audiences to reflect on the delicate balance between human intervention and the survival of endangered species.

About the Przewalski Horse
The Przewalski horse is the last truly wild horse species on Earth. Declared extinct in the wild in 1969, it survived only through a small captive population. Although reintroduction programs have restored the species to parts of Mongolia and China, its genetic diversity remains critically limited.
This documentary features one of the few herds living in Australia - a herd whose genetic identity has long been a subject of uncertainty and interest within the conservation community.

The Unanswered Genetic Question
For years, it was unknown whether this herd was genetically pure Przewalski’s horses or had mixed with domestic breeds. This question carries global significance due to the species’ extremely narrow gene pool.
The relocation finally makes it possible to seek the truth — but the answer is revealed only at the end of the film.
